to the vet and back

Been to the vet.  Henry travels reasonably well, he complains but that is about it. Nothing like our Socks who peed every time we had to take her in the car – the first time taking us by surprise and we sold the car soon after.

But he is nervous about the whole procedure.  He sweats profusely on his paws (the only place he CAN sweat, as I’ve learned) and leaves little wet paw prints all over the vet’s table and once we are at home on the floor.

The actual injection was a cinch.  He looked right into my eyes when the vet put the needle in his flank and didn’t even flinch.

water, water everywhere

I change the water in Henry’s waterbowl everytime I feed him (i.e. three times a day), I change the bowl once a day.  Yet I’ve never seen Henry drink out of it.

He gets enough to drink, though. He drinks rainwater, he finds outside.  He drinks water standing in the sink if I don’t get to him first.  He drinks from puddles after I had a shower.  And just now I caught him drinking from my husband’s toothbrush mug which he (my husband, that is) inexplicably always leaves filled with water after brushing.

dingle dangle dingle dangle

Happiness is sitting at your desk and trying to do some work and a cat pretending to still be a baby cat laying down over your forearms, with his nose facing up and his paws sticking out playing with your dangling earrings. – It does nothing for productivity, though.

pick-up sticks

Hard work before playtime: finding the sticks (well pipe cleaners, really), throwing them on the floor, pulling them out of the plastic wrapper.

After playtime: Looking at the mess,

wondering why nobody is amused,

leaving so somebody else can clean up the mess.

…champion snuggler at night!

Henry’s taken to sleep at least part of the night at the foot of the bed (my side, of course, I have shorter legs).  Should I wake towards morning before the alarm goes I barely open my eyes and he is awake, too, headbutting me and if I refuse to get up snuggling up to my neck and purring like a little sewing machine motor.

mighty hunter by day …

Henry has embraced spring and the warmer temperatures which bring out different life forms, hitherto unknown to him.  I am talking of bugs and black bumble bees.  He chases them, jumps high in the air,  does summersaults,  and basically navigates our garden (and living room) like a parkours environment.

the cat and the ironing board

Who needs cat trees and cat walkways and cat hammocks?  We have an ironing board that has become now a permanent fixture in our living room.  Henry prefers it to all other seating possibilities.  Whether he’s rolled up on top of it during night time, or sunbathing in the morning, whether looking out in the garden or turning round and watching TV with us, whether it’s full of clothes or empty (I keep a towel on top permanently now).
